I am not sure where this recipe came from, but it sure does work! A couple of months ago I picked up a nasty virus that hung onto me for dear life for weeks! My mother gave me this recipe and said I should try it.  She had written it down after reading an article on how to make a cough disappear. This stuff is seriously the best natural cough elixir I have tried!

So what makes this elixir so great? Well for a start Green Tea is a great antioxidant and kills bacteria.   Cloves are know to have antioxidant, anti-septic, local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory properties as well as good amounts of minerals like potassium, manganese, iron, selenium and magnesium, vitamin A and betacarotene. Seriously, don’t get me started on Tumeric… it is a truly an amazing spice which we all should have more of. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties as well as cold and flu fighting capabilities (I will write a whole other post on this one!). Thyme’s flowers, leaves and oil are commonly used for the treatment of diarrhoea, stomach ache, arthritis, colic, sore throat, cough (including whooping cough) and bronchitis. Honey is a cough suppressant and antibiotic and Lemon strengthens your immune system while also boosting your vitamin intake.

Gather the following ingredients –

1 Green Tea Bag
½ Tsp of Cloves (or clove oil)
½ Tsp of Organic Tumeric (Ground or Fresh)
½ Tsp of Fresh Thyme (or Thyme oil)
2 Tsp of Raw Honey
Juice of ½ Lemon (or lemon oil!)

Place all of the ingredients & herbs in with boiling water and steep for 3 mins. Strain before adding the honey and lemon.
